You might be here because you are searching for ways to make money online or probably looking for a guide on how you can properly start a freelance career.

Well, you came to the right place. I’ve been doing freelancing jobs since 2007, and I want to share my experience with you. For the past eight years, I have already experienced the worst and the best in my freelancing career and maybe this could help you out.

Things you should know before you start as a Freelance

I want to tell you the truth, being a freelance or service provider is not that easy. Just imagine that there are millions out there that are also offering the kind of service that you can provide and always expect that there is someone better than you.

I’m not discouraging you, but instead the more you accept it, the more you can be successful in this kind of profession. Secondly, you need to have a great time management skills to be a freelancer as it is up to you on how you will manage your time so that you could complete a project and deliver the output within the deadline.

Lastly, list your strengths and weakness on your skill and focus on your most profitable skill. Like for me, I know how to do graphic designing, web designing, illustration, web development, web administration, and data administration, but I am much comfortable with front-end website design and development. I focused on that aspect and were always applying to projects related to my strengths and avoiding projects that contain my weaknesses.

What do you need to start your freelance career?

Requirements will depend on what type of service you will be providing but for the basics you need at least a stable Internet connection with at a minimum speed of 1mbps, Skype account, webcam and headset with microphone.

Having a planner is optional, but it could relly help you regarding time management. You need a Philippine bank account if you haven’t got one, I suggest that you open one up now, you could also use a Payoneer account as an alternative.

If you choose to signup with Payoneer through this blog which is free by the way, once you receive a payout reaching $100 on your freelancing projects overall you’ll receive a $25 bonus from Payoneer. Click here to know more about Payoneer.

You also need to signup for an account on a service provider portal such as Upwork or Freelancer. Those two portals are the best when you want to start your freelance career as there are many clients. Once you finish signing up for this service providing portals, you just need to verify your accounts such as uploading your ID, providing your bank details or Payoneer Account Information and then wait till they activate your account so that you can apply for a job and bid for the project.

On my next article about freelancing, I’ll be teaching you how to create a killer introduction letter or cover letter when you submit your proposal so that your client will be impressed and will surely hire you for the project.
